TextExpander Snippets for SquareOne
Hey! I’m spending 30 days helping SquareOne take their Customer Success to the next level with engaging newsletters, FAQs, community interactions, and tech tools to make it all more efficient. This is my post about how I took the most common questions from SquareOne’s customers and made super fast and easy-to-use replies in TextExpander. Click here to view the full project!
As I scoured the 415 comments on SquareOne’s Kickstarter page, some common themes emerged.
Lack of communication from the team was the biggest culprit of unsatisfied backers.
Now, if SquareOne hired me on to handle communication, and worked with me to implement my vision of a blog twice a month, featuring comments from the team about what they’re working on as well as pictures and videos, I would make a canned response to update people about our plan of communication.
Here’s what that might look like:
“Our lack of communication is something we’re changing right now. We’ve created a system to more thoroughly document the progress we’re making on SquareOne, and built a schedule to release posts every other week which include photos, videos, and comments from the team, to make you feel like a part of the process.
Not all the updates are exciting announcements. Most of our work is steady, incremental progress. Even so, we hope the updates will help you feel included in what we’re doing.
Please reach out with any further questions, and have a great day!”
When you’re replying to emails and comments, you don’t want to type out these responses over and over. Nor do you want to scroll through the FAQ you’ve made to find the appropriate response, and copy-paste it over.
That’s where TextExpander comes in.
In the video below, I’ll show you how to set up shortcuts which you can type to make whole blocks of text appear.
SquareOne has a thorough FAQ on their website which I pulled from to make these snippets. I edited them for clarity and grammar.

FAQs
When will the console be delivered?
Our estimated delivery date is December 2021. This is the required time to finalize the manufacturing process, produce all necessary SquareOne® and ship them to you. It’s also the time needed for our partners to finalize all the games and experiences that will be available at launch. It is in our best interest to get the SquareOne® to our first clients as soon as possible and we will do our best to avoid any delay.
Do you plan to let communities develop games on SquareOne? How will it work?
Yes. Developers are welcome.
SquareOne has been designed with developers in mind. Once registered as a developer, you will be able to submit your game to our developer platform for approval. After this step, if your game is using physical pieces, you will be contacted by our team to discuss it, and after a few weeks, your game will be available on our Store for every SquareOne user.
Every developer will have to register on the Wizama Developer Platform that will be online around March 2021. With this registration, you will have access to the SDK, a SQ1 simulator, documentation, etc… With these tools, you will be able to develop a game for SquareOne and test it on every console directly.
Which languages are available?
English, German and French will be available on the console interface when delivered.
For the games, it will be up to the Developer’s choice.
More languages will come in 2022.
What happens if liquid falls on the console?
Don’t worry about it. The SquareOne is designed to handle a spill so you can keep your favorite drink nearby when playing. But avoid putting it in the washing machine!
Future games. What can we expect?
We plan to have around fifty games in the catalog by the end of 2021, thanks to our own studio, partner studios, and independent developers. We already have some well-known IPs (Ticket to Ride+GOT+Terraforming Mars from Asmodee, Ravensburger’s Ramses and Labyrinth, Cthulhu, Urban Rivals, Not Alone, The Crew). And we are still in negotiations with several others which will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The success of the console and your support will definitely help us to close some deals and to open new ones.
What is the storage capacity? How many games can we put on the SquareOne?
SquareOne has a 32GB storage disk. Games will be specifically developed for SquareOne.
Based on existing games or games in development, we estimate that internal storage should allow for around 100 games. They will use between 10Mb to 1GB.
You will have plenty of space to get all the games you love. And we will have a Cloud accessible from the console allowing you to save games outside the console so that you can uninstall/reinstall the games at will.
